Our Small Business Of The Week - Lampasas, TX - Late March might have been, if not was, one the worst months in Young’s family history. Their beloved restaurant caught fire and what remained wasn’t salvageable. Fast Forward to June and it is hard to tell that this family was going through any hardships. Beaming with smiles, I was greeted by mom, Lisa Young where she introduced me to son Jeremy.
The family comes from a restaurant background. Jeremy would explain that his mom worked in the food industry most of her life. On the weekends, dad and brothers would cook BBQ at her restaurant, until the family got tired of working for others.
“I was living in Stephenville and had just quit my job and was looking for my next venture when mom called and asked if I wanted to move back home and start a restaurant with them. I guess the rest is kind of history,” Jeremy laughed.
The Young family is close. However, like all families nothing comes easy, mostly when working together. “Working with family is definitely a challenge, especially in the BBQ business because of the long hours. Some days are better than others, but I always say that it's better than working for someone else.”
One word to describe the Young family, resilient. “My tips for small business owners would be to never give up no matter how hard it seems or how bleak the outlook is, there will always be better days. Also, never be afraid to fail. It's never a failure if you come out of it having learned something.” Jeremy stays positive and humble as his outlook for the rest of the year is pretty simple. “Our plans are to keep serving the same quality BBQ and giving the best customer service that we can.”
Central Texas has been their backbone and their style of BBQ, so why mess with a good thing.

Hop in the 'White Lightning' as we embark for another incredible journey to showcase independent musicians from all over the world.
If you ask Texas native Johnny Cole Murdock, music has always been a huge part of his life: from his earliest memories of singing in church, to picking up a guitar when he was 15, to playing live regularly today, he holds firm to the belief that music is a gift from God showing how beautiful it is when people come together for a common purpose.
Life hasn't always been easy for Johnny Cole. Growing up in a broken family caused him to attend ten elementary schools, two middle schools, and five high schools—despite facing the difficulties of that kind of instability, the fire of determination in him never extinguished.
At 18, Johnny Cole enlisted in the Air Force. Whatever time he had to spare went toward his music: songwriting, singing, and guitar playing. In 2018, Johnny Cole was honorably discharged with the intent on pursuing music full-time. His status as a singer-songwriter and guitarist today make clear his passion for creating and sharing country music.
If you're wondering where to find him, Johnny Cole Murdock can be spotted playing at your favorite honky-tonks and all the local hangouts. (Click picture for link to Johnny Cole Murdock's website)
